As you probably know, your braces are designed to realign your teeth. Do you know how it’s done? Every four to six weeks you’ll need to visit Howell Orthodontics so that we can tighten the wires on your braces. These wires will gradually push and pull your teeth into proper alignment.

Dr. Jason Howell and our excellent staff are absolutely committed to offering you the best and fastest orthodontic care. However, the length of your braces treatment is in large part dependent on your everyday oral hygiene routine. If one part of your braces is damaged or you suffer multiple cavities it may alter the tension on your braces, lengthening the amount of time it takes to properly correct the alignment of your teeth.

In addition to regular brushing, you might want to add an interdental brush to help clean hard to reach areas of your mouth. This includes a small, angled brush head which is designed to help you remove food particles from braces hardware as well as the contours of your teeth.

As for flossing, you have a couple options. One choice is to use a water flosser like Waterpik® to clean between your teeth. Another option for a deeper clean is to use a floss threader with waxed dental floss. This simple tool can help insert the strand of dental floss around braces hardware allowing you to effectively clean the gumline.

If you had braces installed at our office in Meridian, Idaho and you have a question about how to maintain them, you can always call 208-893-5151 to ask a member of our excellent staff.
