The ceramic braces installed by your orthodontist, Dr. Jason Howell, are designed to realign your teeth without being noticeable. This is possible because the ceramic material covering the braces is color matched to the shade of your natural tooth enamel.

It’s important to remember that if any part of your braces is damaged or loosened, it could potentially increase the amount of time it takes to achieve your ideal smile.  It’s wise to try to avoid chewing gum and eating sticky foods. They can get stuck in the wires and bands, causing damage or even breaking something loose. At the same time, you should also be wary of eating crunchy foods and hard candy and chewing on things like pens, pencils, and ice.

Complications from oral hygiene issues and cavities can also extend the duration of the realignment process. It’s important to clean your braces by brushing your teeth twice a day. Then, before going to bed at night, you should also floss between each tooth and along the gumline.

Removing food particles and plaque from your braces by brushing and flossing alone can sometimes be challenging. If you’re having trouble cleaning some hard-to-reach places, you might want to try using a dental water jet, interdental brushes or a floss threader with wax-coated floss.

You should also try to keep in mind that your natural tooth enamel is more receptive to stains than the ceramic material coating the braces. Try to cut back on eating dark foods and beverages. If you do want to enjoy dark beverages, you might want to try drinking them through a straw or brushing your teeth shortly after drinking them.
